Colin Walker CTA
Colin began to specialise in tax in 1983.
He has previously spent time as a tax partner with two leading accountancy firms and, more recently, as partner in a specialist tax consultancy business providing planning advice and problem solving for successful owner-managed businesses and their owners across the UK.
James Butterworth
James is a highly experienced mixed tax consultancy professional who has worked for a number of Big 4, top 10 and large independent accountancy practices.
With a particular emphasis on dealing with entrepreneurs and their companies, James’ other headline achievements include leading the corporation tax aspects of a technical department, an international assignment in New York together with considerable transaction tax and tax consulting experience.
James advises on most corporate tax matters including company reorganisations and tax clearances, capital gains tax, property taxes including SDLT and share incentives. James has significant experience in dealing with HMRC and in negotiating successful outcomes.
Farzana Beg CTA
Farzana has been working in personal tax for over 20 years and has gained vast experience in many aspects of UK tax.
She can undertake tax planning for a variety of clients including sole traders, directors of limited companies and high net worth individuals. Farzana also has a wide breadth of knowledge around trusts and IHT planning.
Vicki Tydd CTA
Vicki has worked in tax for ten years, having started her career at EY she has since worked in smaller practices as well as top ten firms.
She has experience in dealing with a range of taxes and has dealt with compliance and tax planning for high net worth individuals, owner managed businesses and partnerships. Vicki is a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation.
Magdalena Kaminska-Bunn CTA, MA (Taxation)
Magdalena qualified as a Chartered Tax Advisor in 2012, after completing a Masters Degree in Taxation at Bournemouth University and a Masters of Law in Poland.
She has been working in UK personal tax for over 15 years and has gained experience in many aspects of taxation while providing specialist tax advice to individuals and owner managed businesses. Her main area of expertise is advising on all tax issues related to employment related share schemes, risk finance investment (EIS, SEIS) and dealing with HM Revenue & Customs clearances on various company reorganisation transactions.
Caroline Lamyman CTA
Caroline trained as a Chartered Tax Advisor, qualifying in 2007.
Her career has encompassed business and personal taxation including VAT and National Insurance with a particular emphasis on capital gains tax and inheritance tax advisory. Caroline has a proven record of bespoke tax efficient advice and harnesses this experience for the benefit of clients.
Liam Tanner FCCA, CTA
Liam is a tax professional with over 16 years’ experience across a broad range of taxes.
He is a chartered accountant and chartered tax adviser with a mixed tax background from his time working within top 10 accountancy firms. Over the years he has worked closely with owner managed businesses, small corporate structures, trusts and individuals from a variety of sectors in arranging their tax affairs as efficiently as possible.
Kathryn Jenkins CTA, MIEx
Kathryn is an Indirect Tax professional with over 17 years’ experience working in VAT at HMRC, in practice and at Croner-i.
She is CTA qualified and has the Institute of Export Level 4 Customs Practitioner Award. She has a broad experience in working with clients in the charity/not-for-profit sector, manufacturing clients and international trade. Kathryn applied her VAT and Customs knowledge to support clients through Brexit and continues to advise on a broad range of pure VAT issues as well as those with Customs implications.
Phuong Nguyen ATT, CTA
Phuong has been working as a VAT consultant for over 6 years.
Starting out at one of the big 4 accountancy firms, she specialised in advising government and public sector clients as well as having exposure to general business and charities. Phuong has a wide breadth of VAT knowledge and particular expertise in advising on the VAT implications of land and property transaction, transfers of a going concern and partial exemption.
Karly Kang ATT, MSc, B.Eng.
Karly is a qualified tax professional who is specialising in R&D tax relief.
She spent her recent years in a boutique R&D tax consultancy firm where she helped businesses navigate the complex world of research and development tax credits. Over the years, Karly has worked with a diverse range of clients, ranging from startups to large corporations across various industries to help businesses access government incentives to fund their R&D activities. With a passion for innovation and a keen eye for detail, Karly has established herself as a trusted advisor to assist companies in maximizing their eligible R&D tax relief claims.
Karly possesses a natural interest in science and technology, she studied for a master’s degree in science and a bachelor’s degree in engineering, which helps her speak the language of businesses seeking advancement in science and technology. Previously Karly also worked for multinational technology companies and the accountancy firm Grant Thornton.
Farhat Khan ATT
Farhat is a tax professional with over 10 years’ experience across various areas of tax.
She started her career at a boutique tax consultancy as part of a Graduate Programme and completed her ATT qualification with them. Farhat worked with clients ranging from High-net-worth individuals, owner – managed businesses to large corporates advising on CT, SDLT, property and employment taxation matters. From here she joined EY within their Global Compliance and Reporting team working within the Financial Services sector. She spent her time working with major national and international financial organisations advising on corporate taxation, including compliance, regulatory and advisory matters.
Barrie Hamilton CTA
Barrie began his career in tax in 1995, qualifying as a Chartered Tax Adviser in 1998.
During his career, Barrie has mainly worked in the regional offices of both national and local accountancy practices and has provided tax planning advice to high net-worth individuals and corporate clients.
Barrie’s main area of expertise is within the private client arena where he provides advice to individuals and families on inheritance tax mitigation and trust planning strategies.
Daniel Martin CTA
Daniel has been a Chartered Tax Advisor for over 15 years.
In that time, he has honed his abilities to identify the most suitable solutions to tax problems, and to understand and explain complex tax issues in a clear and concise manner. His 20 years with a successful, proactive accountancy firm based in the Southwest, gave him a keen awareness of the typical concerns and hurdles for owner managed businesses, at all stages of their business journey.
His main areas of specialism are corporate taxes and corporate reconstructions, with a detailed understanding of various other taxes relevant to the concerns of businesses and their owners. This includes Capital Gains Tax, Stamp Duty Land Tax, Employment Related Securities and the potential incorporation of accumulated property investment portfolios. Daniel can also provide outline valuations of owner managed businesses, for tax purposes.
Julie Jarvis CTA
Julie has over 30 years’ experience in mixed tax and has worked for both top 10 and smaller independent practices.
She is CTA qualified, and also a full member of The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners. She has considerable experience with inheritance tax and trust planning.
Julie has also worked extensively with farmers and landowners.
Neil Tipping
Neil is one of the Senior Tax Consultants on the consultancy team, managing a multi-disciplinary team dealing with Full and Aspect CT and IT enquiries, all aspects of Employment Taxes enquiries including National Minimum Wage and written technical consultancy as well as undertaking consultancy on his own portfolio of clients.
Neil has worked in tax for over 30 years, starting in Customs and Excise and transferring over to the Inland Revenue. He has also worked in various practices including Grant Thornton and PWC and currently specialises in technical enquiry work.
David Ramsdale
David spent 33 years in HMRC gaining expert practical knowledge of their income tax compliance regime and in particular SME full enquiries.
He has conducted over 750 Income tax/cross tax enquiries, managed a hidden economy team, developed profiles for case selection, piloted a cross tax approach and trained colleagues on specific trades and investigative techniques. David spent his last 7 years in HMRC as a Mediator in the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) team helping to embed ADR across HMRC, personally mediating over 200 cases and being the team’s Lead Mentor.
David has an excellent working knowledge of HMRC’s litigation strategy and is particularly passionate about the benefits of ADR due to an outstanding track record of achieving positive outcomes in a wide variety of entrenched disputes.
Kathy Bridges ATT
Kathy worked for HMRC for 24 years with the last 10 of those as an Inspector of Taxes within Local Compliance SME dealing with S9A/S12AC Income Tax enquiries into sole trader and partnership businesses.
Having worked as part of a cross tax team Kathy has an understanding of wider tax issues together with in-depth experience of HMRC’s tax enquiry process & penalty regimes. Kathy previously conducted Working Family/Disabled Persons Tax Credit compliance checks and has a good all-round knowledge of HMRC’s debt management proceedings. Kathy joined a Tax Advisory firm in 2015 providing Direct Tax telephone advice to accountancy clients and has recently gained her ATT qualification.
Andrew Scrivens
Andrew has been a part of this business for over 20 years.
Having previously worked for HMRC and then small, medium and national accountancy firms. Initially, he worked on the telephone advice lines but soon moved on to join the consultancy team as an Employer Compliance Specialist. During his time with the Consultancy Team Andrew has successfully represented a wide range of clients in handling HMRC Employer Compliance Reviews which have included subjects such as benefits in kind, operation of PAYE, CIS, IR35, employment status and national insurance.
Andrew’s extensive experience makes him invaluable to both clients and his colleagues alike, and he has been at the forefront of advising clients on changes to the employment taxes landscape.
Zoe Flude
Zoe has 28 years’ experience of working at HMRC.
Initially in debt management for 10 years, then moving over compliance checks on small sole trade and partnership businesses operating within the Hidden Economy. From 2013 she trained as a compliance officer in small and medium enterprises, achieving ATT accreditation in 2015. She worked on both self-assessment and corporation tax compliance checks and specialised in HMRC’s evasion task force work.
Zoe has a long term working knowledge of HMRC processes, particularly in the penalty regime, information requests and unannounced inspections.
James Eason
During James’ 21 year career at HMRC he has worked in clerical roles on Corporation Tax, PAYE, Self-Assessment and Employers as well as managing teams in SA/PAYE processing and Risk & Intelligence Services.
James latterly worked in HMRC compliance working both income tax and corporation tax compliance checks on SME businesses. In 2016 James moved into HMRC’s evasion task force. James has a very good working knowledge of HMRC’s tax enquiry process, information requests and penalty regimes.
